This was actually one of the best places I have eaten in Bangkok. Oh and the cocktails here are absolutely delicious!
They usually have live music playing and it is the perfect place to watch the sunset over the skyline in the distance. Grab a cocktail and check out some of the best views in the city. Bangkok is as safe as any other large city around the globe. Sure there are crimes, but use common sense and you will be fine the majority of the time.
Though what you need to be aware of are scams. Bangkok is unfortunately a city that is full of scams and if this is your first introduction to Asia it may seem daunting at first. The only real crime you need to be concerned about when backpacking Bangkok would be petty theft.
Carry your valuables in a cross-the-body bag. Bag snatching is quite common here to you want to prevent giving people the opportunity.
Though you will be fine to use it to brush your teeth. The number one thing is always to get the taxi to use a meter. Be aware that if the meter seems to be going up unusually fast get out of the taxi. If you are concerned about getting scammed in a taxi then use Grab. This is an app that can be downloaded on your phone. The tourist site is closed. This is a famous one in Bangkok where your taxi driver or official-looking person outside of the Grand Palace will state it is closed.
Though they know somewhere just as amazing elsewhere. Just ignore this person and get on your way to getting inside the attraction. Bangkok has enough things to do to keep you entertained for days, even weeks.
It is such a huge city with endless activities and attractions. Whether you enjoy a bit of relaxation, adrenalin-fueled adventure, or check out the sights, Bangkok has something for everyone. Visiting the Grand Palace has to be one of the top things to do while backpacking Bangkok. Sure you will be surrounded by hoards of tourists, but it a must-do when you are here. Try to visit early morning when it first opens if you want to beat the crowds.
There are clothes for hire at the entry in case you forget. Another one of the must things to do when in Bangkok is visiting Wat Po. This is home to the incredible 45 meter long reclining Buddha. It is also 15 meters high and this Wat temple is the oldest and largest in Bangkok.
Bangkok has so many excellent markets to check out. Though to keep this on the shorter side I will just mention the top choices which many travelers visit. Chatuchak Market: The Chatuchak Weekend Market has everything you could ever want and even things that you probably never would want all in the same place.
It is also open from Wednesday to Friday, but during the weekend is where this place truly transforms with countless stalls selling anything and everything. As the name implies this is where you can find a sea of flowers being sold. The most popular time to visit here is actually midnight when the freshest flowers arrive ready to be sold in stores the next morning.
The boats on the Chao Phraya River are actually are a form of public transport in Bangkok and it is a great way to see some of the city. There are both contrasts of Bangkok located along the river. From the shining and grand temples to the low-key markets. Wat Arun is definitely known as one of the more instagramable temples in Bangkok.
Though that is because it is absolutely beautiful. Known as the Temple of Dawn it is one of the many iconic sights of the city and is a must-visit when backpacking Bangkok. Khao San Road is packed with little hole-in-the-walls and rickety cafes that serve the best of Pad Thai noodles in the area. You can try one that is loaded with all kinds of meats or just go for a simple veggie one. Take a few steps into Khao San Road and you will be greeted with a slew of street stalls that serve the best delicacies from every corner of Thailand.
You can have a plateful of nam prik, a famous Thai dish, or give your tongue a taste of the spicy curries that are available in every stall. Satay sticks, noodles and rice, you can get all these and some more in the local food market of Khao San Road. When in Khao San Road make sure your first food stop is at the numerous buffet restaurants that are perched on the sides of the road. You can find all varieties of stir-fries, curries, noodles, and rice along with an array of spices and sauces to choose from to complete your meal of the day.
Some of the must-try dishes in these buffet corners are Kaeng Matasaman chicken and potato curry in coconut gravy and kaai luuk kheuy deep-fried eggs in tamarind sauce. A particular corner of Khao San Street is reserved for those brave hearts you love to try all things unique and weird.
Khao San Road is full of little corners that serve fried bugs and beetles for you to try. So, if you are up for it, take a small bowl of crispy fried grasshoppers and cockroaches along with scorpions and spiders. However, if you are icky about these creepy treats, then it is better to avoid this area of Khao San Road. Due to its immense popularity, Khao San street is usually crowded to the brim with tourists and locals, hence, being wary of your surroundings is quite important. There are a few things that you need to be aware of when you are in Khao San Road.
Take a look:. The hawkers and streets vendors will almost always ask for more money than the actual cost of the product when they realize that you are a tourist. Do not give in to them and hold your ground while bargaining. It is always a good idea to know a few local terms to put them off their track.
Another thing that you need to be vigilant about on this street are conmen who will go to any length to extort money from you and small-time pickpockets who can take away your wallets with the stealth of a cat. Thus, keep a check on your pockets and handbags at short intervals to check if it is there or not. Already packing your bags for Thailand?
Make sure the bright and exciting streets of Khao San are in your bucket list while you prepare to backpack around the sparkling beaches and verdant landscapes of this gorgeous beach country. Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired.. Could be better for such a nice hotel. Coffee was really bad too. But the pool, the ambiance, the staff makes it all worth. Will be coming back! RIkka Inn was the perfect place to stay! If you are interested in being near all the action of Khao San Road- this is it!
However, this place was surprisingly very quiet- The hotel was right in the middle of Khao San Road but kind of set back in a way and it seemed as though most rooms were away from the street noises.
I stayed there 2 nights at the beginning of my tri I stayed there 2 nights at the beginning of my trip and one night at the very end of the trip and was glad i did. Great reception- we were to arrive at 11pm but didnt arrive till 4am due to flight delay- this wasn't a problem- our room was basic, but extremely clean and had a unique feeling interesting decor - comfortable beds- Most showers in Thailand were like the ones at Rikka Inn- a shower that is in the bathroom directly over the toilet- so you pretty much get the entire bathroom wet -dont forget to remove the toilet paper!
When you want to sleep next to Khao San Road, this hotel is the best! It's just around the corner of Khao San Road. We have traveled around Thailand and were in Bangkok the first night and the last night. Both of that nights we stayed at Buddy Boutique Inn.
The room is big and the bathroom is perfect! You have everything you need in this room and you pay not much! The location is perfect if you want to stay around Khao San Road.
Grand Palace is around the other corner and there are taxi's and tuctuc's everywhere in Thailand. The room was well cleaned every day. We told the staff that we wanted a early check-out after the last night.
I booked 2 nights just so we could go in the room whenever we wanted on the last day before flying back home. That was the reason why they didn't made up our room on the last day. The staff is very kind and helpful if you ask them anything.
The facilities of the hotel itself ar minimal but the facilities you need are everywhere outside the hotel! The hotel is really well made, with great eye for detail. It just looks beautiful. The superior room was perfect, specious, with great ac. The staff was really kind, and helpful. The rooftop garden and pool is amazing, we loved drinking our morning coffee there.
It closes at 7pm which is a shame, because the views at night are breathtaking up there. You can leave your baggage at the reception, which is really helpful if your transfer leaves after checkout time. All the main attractions are close or easily reachable with public transport or taxis. It's near to Khao San Road but its quiet, Highly recommend it. I found my stay here to be quite comfortable and a great value. While the hotel is older, it is still well kept and clean.
My room was cleaned each day, the bed was comfortable, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Some may consider it a far walk maybe 20 mins? For those who do not wish to make the trek, there is a tuk-tuk service at the hotel that will take you to Khao San. It is also quite easy to catch a taxi out front. We stayed for 3 days at the beginning of our time in Thailand and found it to be a wonderful hotel for the money.
Definitely a great value and would return. I will also recommend this place to friends that wish to visit the city. The staff here were wonderful. They answered all our questions and helped us with everything we needed.
Tara Place isn't very far from the major attractions. The staff can flag down a tuk tuk for you and The staff can flag down a tuk tuk for you and it won't cost you too much to get around. If you want, Khao San Road is just down the street, no more than a 15min walk.
But the area around Tara Place is pretty nice too. In the evening the street vendors come out and all the restaurants are filled with people. There were 3 of us, so we needed to add an extra bed in the room. This minimized the amount of floor space we had. So it was slightly cramped for 3 girls but otherwise the room was very nice. Even the mattress on the floor was comfortable.
Overall: This place is good for those looking for a quiet place to stay, for small groups, and for families. I got a good deal with this hotel. Room was clean and the staffs are friendly. I could still hear the party music from Khao San Rd in my hotel but not that loud and I still had a good sleep so far.
Free breakfast could have made the entire stay excellent but I guess that Free breakfast could have made the entire stay excellent but I guess that's too much to ask from a super cheap deal I paid. Overall, I recommend this hotel. I hate to give a positive review because more people will stay here. Best mattresses I've found on Khao San road. The secret is out. The pool is nice.
Breakfast is across the street at Dang Derm. Ask for wifi password before you leave the front desk or you'll be back down in the lobby. Stand in the righ Don't act like arrogant Eurotrash when you're checking in. Realize these employees have to deal with s of people everyday. Being pleasant will get you much further than not. Don't deal with the Indian tailor right outside the door. His name is David and he is a thief and his clothes are inferior.
We have been pleasantly surprised by the Trang Hotel. The staff is nice, including the cleaning ladies. They always smile. We booked the superior room, but have been upgraded to premium superior. The price through Agoda is very good value for money. A big and deep swimming, with barely anyone inside. We swam many times alone. The breakfast is included, there are asi The breakfast is included, there are asian food rice and noodles and continental food bread, jam, butter, ham, sausage, eggs , there are also orange juice not that great and tea and coffee.
It is not super good food, but correct enough to give you a boost at the start of the day. The premium superior rooms have balcony with view on the garden, so quiet during the night. We can hear the people having breakfast in the morning, but not annoying. The other rooms have view i believe outside, but not sure. Nice bathroom with hot shower. Plenty of storage.
I haven't seen the standard nor the superior rooms, but i would recommend the premiums. We feel at home! The wifi works well too, and you can even work on your laptop near the swimming pool The Khao San road tourists road is 10 min walk, and there are buses which goes straight to Hualamphong train station. So glad with this hotel that we will come back next week but this time with my parents-in-law and I will update their opinion on Agoda. The hotel is in a good position.
